Moms Demand Action Hosts Wear Orange Vigil to Honor All Impacted by Gun Violence
The Rippling Effect of Gun Violence Reaches Every Corner of Our Community
The Beaches Chapter of Moms Demand Action will host a public Wear Orange vigil on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church to honor and remember all those whose lives have been affected by gun violence. All are welcome to attend.
In 2025, 47 Delaware residents lost their lives, and on average each year 133 people are killed and 305 are wounded by gun violence across the state. The vigil will include personal testimonials from survivors and community members who have experienced the profound and lasting effects of gun violence.
Shauna Severo, Co-Lead of the Beaches Chapter of Moms Demand Action, emphasized the far-reaching emotional and social toll, stating: “Gun violence doesn’t just end lives — it echoes through entire communities; it ripples outward, altering the emotional landscape of neighborhoods, fracturing families, and dimming futures.
Background
Wear Orange is a national movement dedicated to honoring the lives of people in the United States affected by gun violence and elevating the voices of advocates working toward meaningful change. The tradition began in 2015 to commemorate Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old Chicago high school student who was shot and killed in 2013. Her friends chose the color orange — the color hunters wear to stay visible — as a symbol of resilience, protection, and a call to action.
