SCHOLARSHIP
Let’s Make DE a “hate has no home here” State!
$2500 SOAH Social Justice Scholarship
(Two scholarships of $2500 will be awarded from the applicant pool, regardless of school).
Eligibility:
1) Open to any Sussex County, DE graduating senior currently attending one of these 4 schools:
– Cape Henlopen High School
– Indian River High School
– Sussex Academy
– Sussex Central High School
2) Plans to attend a post-secondary college, training, university or trade/technical school in Fall 2026.
3) Minimum GPA requirement: 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. ​​

Deadline:
All applications must be receieved by: Midnight on April 24, 2026

Application Requirements Checklist (must complete all):
1) Completed scholarship application form (see button below to download Application Packet)
2) Original Essay (up to 400 words)
3) Current transcript (unofficial accepted)
4) Detailed list or a resume showing leadership roles, including social justice activities, interests, community service, and work experience. Include dates of service/work.
5) Two letters of recommendation: One from your school counselor or school-based personnel, and one from a community leader.
6) All required documents MUST be submitted to be considered for this scholarship.
7) Send all documents together in a PDF file (one file preferred); send all at one time.

Application Scoring:
Scoring: 100 Total Points.
The SOAH 2026 Social Justice Scholarship will be scored on the following:
1) 10 Points: Academics:
a) GPA 2.5 and above
b) Rigor of Coursework
2) 30 Points: Community Service/Volunteerism, Activities or Employment:
a) Described community service and volunteerism
b) Described extra-curricular activities and/or paid employment or family engagement, i.e., family responsibilities/ family caretaking

3) 25 Points: Leadership:
a) Held an office/committee chair/sport leadership position
b) Described specific achievements and advancement in roles
​
4) 20 Points: Essay:
a) Used effective writing skills and answered all components of the essay question
b) Followed essay instructions

5) 15 Points: Recommendations:
Two letters of recommendation: one from a school counselor or school-based personnel and one from a community leader ​​
